we have received the request below to assist with S-H foundation bike ride.

Does anyone want to volunteer to help organise this event?

Hello,
I am organizing a 2 week charity bike ride for the Scott Hardy Foundation next year from 26th August 2012 - 9th September 2012 starting from Porky’s diner in Basildon, Essex travelling anti clockwise through England, Scotland and Wales.
I’m also arranging a rally in Scotland at the end of the 1st week and another rally at the end of the 2nd week in Essex to end the ride.
I wondered if you could possibly help with the organisation of the ride please? In respect of stalls, caterers, marshalls, merchandise, security, donations, bike mechanics, support vehicles, way to way radios, etc.
Would your club be interested in joining us at a pre-arranged point along the journey in support of the charity and ride along with us for however long a distance your club would be willing to go?
Any help you can give us at all would be greatly appreciated.
If you are interested, would you please let me know at the above email address and we will send you details of the planned route once finalized.
The website for the foundation is as follows:  www.scotthardyfoundation.org.uk
I look forward to hearing from you soon

Yours faithfully

Julie Baker

Wow that's a lot of organisation.  Is that a standard letter going to all bike clubs do you know Stem or is that just for us?  If it's just us then help with "In respect of stalls, caterers, marshalls, merchandise, security, donations, bike mechanics, support vehicles, way to way radios, etc. " is a very big ask.  If a general letter then thy need a co-ordinator who can sort out who has done what and will be doing what so others know what is left.  Do you know any more?

STEM

No sorry thats as much as I know. But i think it was a  general call for help as it came in via the unity ride site . Maybe send out an email to all usr's and see it anyone is willing to take charge and find out what is required.

Weaver@TLB

I've e-mailed asking for further details, but no response so far.

Hello everyone,
I somehow have accidently stumbled on to this site and had to register and post something as there seems to be alot of confusion over what's going on.
I am the Chairman of the Scott Hardy Charity ride and i am asking for all the help you can give us.
We are looking for marshalls, security staff at the rally sites we have, stall holders, wristbands etc.
The email for the ride is scotthardycharityride@live.co.uk.
Any assistance you think you can help us with, no matter how small or insignificant, please get in touch.
We have now finalized the route for the ride and i have attached it below.
If anyone lives in Essex who would like to be on the committee as a go between or a spokesperson, please email me on the above email address and i will get in touch with you immediately.
I will keep Steve Marsh more in the loop now that the route is more or less finalized apart from a few campsites we still ahve to find but i will reattach the new route as and when we have confirmations.
Thanks
Julie

When did that second mail come Stem?  I still have no reply to my e-mail requesting further details from them and frankly the way the USR group is at the moment I doubt there is much we can do to assist.

Can you please email me at scotthardycharityride@live.co.uk and i will be able to help you more from there.
I have just had an email from Steve and i have passed it on to the President of the ride who will contact him with an invite to one of our committee meetings.

Hiya Julie

Sorry I hadn't noticed it was you - I thought Stem had posted it because of the start of the post.  If he has already e-mailed you he has probably asked everything that I asked originally anyway!

Top Cat

A Ride-out is one thing..... organising TWO rallies is quite another, especially in the time frame available.
It's the permissions you have to get for such rallies to go ahead. Local Councils' events management need to be involved; potential site risk assessments carried out and signed off by the local HSE; mobile event caterers need to be council approved; traffic management plans approved and implemented for the approach to, and dispersal from, the sites; local police brought on board and dispositions agreed; live music performance licences organised....etc. etc. Oh, and if the Scottish Independence vote comes early, possibly passports and visas to organise!
In my view, such an enterprise is currently beyond Unity's remit or abilities. Professional Event organisers, having the contacts and legal knowledge would charge thousands to put something like this together...
For the forthcoming Ride of Respect it's taken Julia Stevenson and Anne Cole the best part of a year to get it sorted, and that's from a position of having local support, many of the permissions already in place, local police already on board (and happy to be), and traffic management issues sorted by that Top Cat muppet.

Although I have no doubt that the Scott Hardy Foundation is a worthy cause, with that many outside agencies having to be involved in the rallies, the costs of putting them on will far outweigh the revenue..... unless they offer their services for nothing, and the attendance at each rally is huge.
Just a personal viewpoint.
Best wishes, John T. (that Top Cat muppet).
The USR Team - the impossible we do at once! We need a fortnight's notice for miracles!

I am meeting with Barry Baker (Baz) the ride president on Sunday 22nd Jan @ 11.00 AM at Porky's Diner nr Wickford on A127. Would any other USR like to join me for this initial meeting?

Porky's was formally Carlton Transport Cafe I think

STEM

I've spoken to the organising team and have offered our help in both escorting the ride through the Essex area and communicating with the authorities  / police when required. They are expecting only 100 - 200 riders on this leg so we will need about 10 USR 's to volunteer. I will add detail as it becomes available within the 'restricted' section of the forum.

This might be a good training ride for those new to the group.
